Dr. Ya Ya’s Gumbo Party

When Dr. Ya Ya’s Gumbo Party comes to town, shoutin’ and paradin’ with that BIG second-line beat, tossing colored Mardi Gras beads and doubloons to everyone…….you’re in for some of the best Louisiana-style musical cookin’ north of Lake Pontchartrain!

Here in the frozen north, everyone deserves a Mardi Gras party…..400 days a year!  To administer a remedy, Dr. Ya Ya dispatches his musical minions who resemble past and present members of rootsy rockin’ bands like The Bandidos, Hot Skillet Papas, Eight to the Bar, B. Willie Smith, The Convertibles, and more.  Parading into every gig with feathers flying, drums pounding, and brass horns blowing…..just like Rampart Street on Fat Tuesday, the revue turns up the heat with their rock’n roll, rhythm and blues, funk, and zydeco gumbo.  It’s an all-Louisiana groove riot of party music from the land where rock was born, pumping out the classic sounds of Professor Longhair, The Meters, Fats Domino, The Neville Brothers, Lloyd Price, Lee Dorsey, Huey Piano Smith, Shirley & Lee, Zydeco Princess Miss Ann Goodly, Clarence “Frogman” Henry, and many more.

What People are Saying:

Dr. Ya Ya’s Gumbo Party performed for our annual Southbury Celebration to over 8000 people.  They were extremely entertaining, kept the crowd dancing, and three out hundreds of Mardi Gras beads until they ran out.  It was a great success!”  Southbury Celebration Committee

Dr. Ya Ya’s brought smiles to festival goers of all ages.  The time, energy and music they brought to Mark Twain Days was very much appreciated by all.”  Kristin F. and Kathy C. at Riverfront Recapture

I wanted to take the time to thank you on behalf of the Bristol Parks and Recreation Department for your performance last night as part of our Summer 2016 Concert Series. We were so excited that we were able to showcase a band that brought the taste and sound of Mardi Gras and New Orleans to us in the middle of August. We thoroughly enjoyed your concert and the beautiful evening that accompanied you!”  Jess P., City of Bristol Parks and Recreation
